2-3 June - Winter in the Winelands Cooking Class
This winter Leopard’s Leap will be hosting a number of cooking classes at their estate in Franschhoek. Food lovers wanting to fine-tune or expand their culinary skills are invited to take part in a programme of cooking classes conducted by Leopard’s Leap in-house chef Pieter de Jager and visiting local and international chefs. Staying seasonal and topical, the programme covers a wide spectrum of food types and cooking methods.
For these classes Chef Pieter introduces the flavours, textures and atmosphere of winter in the Winelands with steaming ‘waterblommetjies‘, hearty stews, slow-cooked splendours and many more.

2-5 June - Wacky Wine Weekend - Robertson wine valley
Expect to be wowed with the Robertson Wine Valley’s thirteenth annual Wacky Wine Weekend showcasing more than 40 wine estates, boutique wineries and tourism establishments from the Ashton, Bonnievale, McGregor and Robertson region. This much loved event takes place from 2-5 June 2016. Showcasing wonderful wines, the stories behind the bottles and embracing country life in the beautiful Robertson Wine Valley.

3 June - Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show & Public Tasting
The Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show is South Africa’s premier wine competition that recognises the top local wines and winemakers, and honours excellence in the wine industry. For one night only you can sip, swirl and sample some of South Africa’s sterling vintages at the 2016 Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show public tasting event at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) on Friday 3rd June. Known as one of the country’s most respected national wine competitions, the showcase gives ordinary folk the rare opportunity to discover and sample some of the very best vinos from more than 30 wine categories, including everything from MCCs and Sauvignon Blanc to Pinotage and Port (and a few more in-between).

3 - 5 June - Soup, Sip and Bread Winter Fest - Durbanville
Winter is here again, which means that the annual Soup, Sip and Bread Winter Fest is back and what better way to enjoy the colder days than with a warm bowl of soup, freshly baked bread and fine, local wines. 7 June - The Story of a House, Cooking Class
Hot on the heels of the release of their beautiful coffee-table style cookbook, La Creuzette – The Story of a House, the charming and inspirational Louis Janse van Vuuren and Hardy Olivier will be presenting a hands-on Cooking Class at Leopard’s Leap. And that is not all! Joining them in the kitchen is Chef Thierry Finet, who has owned two Michelin star restaurants in France and has been working with Louis and Hardy for about a decade.
While sharing some of their seasonal recipes inspired by the history of the Château in the French countryside Louis and Hardy now call home, as well as their South African roots, this class also announces the French Season in Franschhoek with the annual Bastille Festival around the corner.

10 - 19 June - Hermanus Fynarts
The venues for Hermanus FynArts showcase the wide range of what Hermanus has to offer, from local art galleries and church halls in the town centre to wine farms up the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley.
One of the highlights of Hermanus FynArts is the Tollman Bouchard Finlayson Tondo Competition exhibition in the cellar of the Bouchard Finlayson wine estate in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley. Selected work is displayed on the heads of barrels newly filled with wines pressed from grapes harvested in late February and March.
The 2015 innovation of acknowledging the contribution of one country to the arts as well as to the South African way of life will continue through the 2016 programme. French will be the fine thread that runs through the events, from talks to demonstrations; from art to food and wine; and from the contribution of individuals and milestone events.
11 - 12 June - The Wedding Expo - CTICC
Recognised as the South African Bride’s favourite bridal event, The Wedding Expo boasts premiere exhibitors showcasing everything from the perfect wedding stationery to beautiful blooms, breath-taking wedding gowns to gorgeous jewellery, tantalising table décor to hedonistic honeymoons. The Wedding Expo also offers the opportunity to interact with some of South Africa’s top wedding planners, and photographers. 16 - 17 June - Delheim Wild Mushroom Hunt
Delheim offers avid mushroom foragers an exceptional experience of wild mushroom hunting in its private forest, for enthusiasts to unearth these elusive, seasonal delicacies and revel in fungi spotting excitement.
The foraging excursion is led by Delheim’s Nora Sperling-Thiel and Gary Goldman, a seasoned field expert and mushroom cultivator and will see intimate groups setting foot for a magical ‘walk on the wild side’, in search of these delicious gems, lurking right there under one’s nose.
The whole idea is for visitors to hone their foraging feelers and become comfortable in picking their own mushrooms, whilst embracing the lost art of seasonal foraging. 25 - 25 June - Christmas in Winter - Tulbagh
Christmas around the world is envisaged as cold and white with snow. Yet Christmas in South Africa happens in the height of Summer, a braai is hosted and people swim outdoors. While there are benefits to having Christmas in summer, rarely do we get to experience the joys of a cold, white Christmas. Tulbagh make this possible with their annual 'Christmas in Winter'.
