Films often start with a view of a bedroom that leads straight onto a white sand beach, with the glistening ocean stretching on forever. Naturally we all think either, “I wish” or “yeah right”, well we’re here to say that it does exist and that this luxurious hotel will deliver all of your dreams. We took a great sunset walk along the waters-edge in the evening before heading back for a delicious dinner. In the morning, we braved the cold water and dipped our toes in before we had to head back to the City. Strandloper Ocean reflects its name perfectly. Situated in Paternoster, on the West Coast of the Cape, alongside the West Coast National Park. A spectacular area of natural beauty, its variety of landscapes is breath-taking. Each way you look from Strandloper Ocean there is something different to see. The never ending white sandy beach with it's clear blue water on one side, yet jagged and sharp rocks along the beach in other direction. Look inland and you will see rolling dunes, which transform into indigenous Fynbos, a sea of green. During the spring months (August – October) this sea of green bursts into life. Bright and vibrant colours dominate the view, fresh new buds and flowers of all shapes and sizes erupt from the earth. A visit during this season is well worth the drive from Cape Town on its own, but paired with a stay over at Strandloper Ocean it is indisputable. There’s so much more to do in this location (although just staring out to sea and taking in the view and salty air is also fine), such as:
Apart from all of the magnificent activities and scenery around Strandloper, there is of course the hotel itself. It has the feel of a luxurious beach house, with whites and neutral colours, plus the touches of accent shades, comfortable furniture and soft bed sheets. Because of the room’s proximity to the beach and Fynbos, it feels as though you are connected to the outdoors, the light and airy, high ceiling rooms promote a relaxed atmosphere. We had the pleasure of staying in a Nature King Suite, a duplex suite that’s comfortably big enough to live in. It overlooked the Fynbos, with a private track that leads to the beach. Thanks to this relaxed beach house feel, and the location of this hotel; it is enticing in both summer and winter. Summer, of course, because of the great weather, on the beach splashing in the sea. And winter, because, well what’s better than being indoors next to an open fire, whilst drinking local red wine, listening to a storm (it’s called the Cape of Storms for good reason). Furthermore, there are great winter packages and rates. Being a seaside town, Paternoster is host to a selection of seafood restaurants. Strandloper Ocean does a fantastic feast, of fresh caught Crayfish cooked on the braai. We can recommend the West Coast Mussels as well as the Kingklip main dish, with a super tasty carrot purée. Due to their popularity, they are soon renovating and creating a larger restaurant, as well as extra rooms for those that over indulge or just can’t bear to leave. They’re also improving the current spa facilities so that relaxing is even easier. A special mention has to go to the staff at Strandloper Ocean, always with an infectious smile on their face, as well as a warm and friendly greeting. Everyone was more than willing to go the extra mile to make us feel relaxed and ensure that we had having a great time, whether you just want to retreat into your room and relax or want to go on an adventure. They even washed our car! Strandloper’s grace doesn’t end there however. They are also heavily involved with the local community and giving back to the less fortunate. They help a charity "West Coast Kids" by bringing over and hosting a group of German dentists who provide oral health check-ups for the children, as well as adults with teeth problems. A service that otherwise would not be as accessible to them at all. We had such a great experience, although it was too short. But happily it just means that we need to go back. But don’t just take our word for it, make your way out to Strandloper and try it out for yourself! Enquire Below Now. Or to find out even more visit our Strandloper Ocean page.
