There are various trails all over Cape Town, below are a few options that are available.
Table Mountain -27 km Off-road ride for mountain junkies and optional 1.5 hour hike up Lions Head. From the Waterfront Get ready for the hectic climbs up to Single Hill Road along the lower slopes of Table Mountain above Rhodes Memorial up to the Kings Block House on winding gravel roads. The final climb up to Blockhouse is well worth the effort as you have views of both Tablebay and False Bay. The undulating ride back along Tafelberg road passes the cableway and transcends down along the single tracks in Deer Park.
Hoogekraal, Meerendal and Contermanskloof in Durbanville – 10 to 70km of manicured single track with 400 to 1000 meters of climbing is a treat for intermediate and experienced mountain bikers with a reasonable level of fitness. Starting from Hoogekraal you are in for a treat riding up the switchbacks to the top of Spykers Hill with the option of doing a technical rocky section down the cobra trail. The sweeping downhill has two options: the chicken run or the ‘widow maker’ with technical jumps! We then continue onto Contermanskloof on a well marked trail for 16km upto the highest point of 420 metres of climbing before descending on beautiful sweeping single track down the ‘super tube’ and ‘cheeky corners’. Another climb takes you up through the Bushvines. For those that still have energy we have an option to continue through to Meerendal, a well-known end point to the Cape Epic with a climb up to Dorstberg or sweeping downhill through the AfroMontane Forests of Bloemendal and Majik Forest.
Paarl Mountain Nature Reserve & Rhebokskloof single track trials – 14km & 18km of superb single track plus endless Jeep track
Paarl Mountain Nature Reserve, with its giant granite boulders dating back more than 500 million years, provides a spectacular
backdrop to this enjoyable MTB ride. Leisure cruising on good dirt roads with a gentle gradient makes this trail suitable for the
whole family. More technical challenges of either 14km or 18km on superb single track on Rhebokskloof Wine Estate can be
included for the fit rider with some great climbs and views.
Stellenbosch Jonkershoek trials - 10km to 40km off road Mountain biking in this commercial forest eventually gives way to pristine
Cape Fynbos as you pedal around the 10km beginners gravel mountain biking trail. More technical challenges on superb single
track with some great climbs up to 800m to the ‘neverending story’ or ‘fire hut trails’ offers fantastic views of the rugged peaks of
the Hottentots Holland Mountains.
