This Big 5 reserve is the only one in the Kruger Park area with access to the Sabie River and, Lion Sands safari vehicles have the rights to traverse Kirkman's Kamp Reserve to the East.
Lion Sands Game Reserve is known for luxurious accommodation: River Lodge with its massive decks overlooking the Sabie River and award-winning Ivory Lodge with its beautiful villa-sized suites. If you're staying in one of these lodges, you also have the option of spending a night in the Lion Sands Tree House, a private bush bedroom where you can sleep under the stars in a comfortable 4-poster bed. Guests are offered a selection of alternative safari-based activities from interpretive bush walks with expert ecologists, to astrology. The Mid-Range Option Simbavati Hilltop Lodge – Timbavati Game Reserve 2 Nights in a Luxury Suite at a fully inclusive rate. With a beautiful, approximately 2 hour return airport transfer from Eastgate Airport (Hoedspruit – daily flight from Cape Town). Tell Me About Simbavati Hilltop Lodge Lying on the Kruger National Park's unfenced western boundary, Timbavati is a 53 000 hectare private nature reserve that ranks among the region's most successful conservation stories. Created in the 1950s to rehabilitate degraded farmland, the environment is now fully restored and teeming with wildlife.
It's classic Big 5 safari territory and also home to a population of lions carrying a recessive gene that gives rise to the so-called 'white lions of Timbavati'. Expertly guided dawn and early afternoon game drives are conducted daily, and since Timbavati is a private Kruger reserve, guests are treated to activities that are not allowed in the Kruger National Park such as off-road driving for premium sightings, exciting spot-lit night drives, and guided nature walks - ideal for birdwatchers to tick off some of the 360 bird species recorded in the reserve.

Sweeping across 13 000 hectares of savannah and riverine forest, Kapama represents a piece of Africa as it used to be. As part of the greater Kruger area, vast herds of buffalo, elephant and antelope are resident on Kapama, along with plentiful predators. Game drives and bush walks offer fascinating encounters with wildlife, but Kapama also offers guests unique African wildlife experiences.
